I’m Not Afraid Of Ghosts

A timely exhibition of more than 30 TCollection artworks in Venice, Italy

View TCollection in Venice! We are very pleased to announce I’m Not Afraid Of Ghosts, an exhibition opening April 17th, 2024, featuring over 30 TCollection artworks in various media, including standout works by Cecily Brown, Marlene Dumas, Dominique Fung, Jenny Holzer, Jadé Fadojutimi, Sanya Kantarovsky, Simone Leigh, Sarah Lucas, Christina Quarles, and Issy Wood. The exhibition will take place in Venice, Italy at the same time as the legendary Venice Biennale, one of the most exciting and prestigious international events for contemporary art worldwide.

The Venice Biennale is a fine art exhibition held once every two years, designed to spotlight the work of artists of all backgrounds from more than 75 countries. We couldn’t think of a better time and place to debut this selection of works, in an exhibition designed to channel an acute feeling of contemporaneity — a moment in which we pay respect to our past and traditions, yet draw the courage to make our own choices and look to the new. This presentation of TCollection artwork features artists from around the globe, in a presentation in the historic Palazzo Tiepolo Passi overlooking the central stretch of Venice’s Grand Canal.

I look forward to heading to Venice this month to present a timely selection of TCollection artworks that I find inspiring, hung together for the very first time. This exhibition is a window into the ideas I've been exploring as a collector, and I am honored to share them in Venice in the context of one of the most important international art events of the year — TCollection founder Tatiana Fileva

A number of women artists from TCollection are featured in the exhibition, with images of figures rendered as mothers, caregivers, friends, allies, confidants, and adversaries. Figuration and abstraction become a site of resistance and defiance by tapping into the ambiguity and complexity of human relationships, experiences, and emotions. The works serve as a testament to the power of choice in determining one’s subjective reality. Expressions of love and lust, violence and play, reality and fantasy, are depicted in subjective and uncertain scenarios, which, together, reinforce the need to search for a new narrative — one in which all people can find joy in liberation and self-actualization.

Exploring parallels between cyclical histories and the female body, I’m Not Afraid Of Ghosts is characterized by the desire to shape new values that come with new times. Values that, through care and mutual respect, allow us to transcend our differences, acknowledging the specter of history as we shape a collective, multifaceted path forward.

Built in the mid-sixteenth century overlooking the central stretch of the Grand Canal, Palazzo Tiepolo Passi in the San Polo district retains an early Renaissance-style façade divided by three string courses. On this façade are still visible the remains of frescoes painted by Andrea Meldola, called Lo Schiavone. As with most Venetian palaces, the architectural layout is structured around a large central hall, which is enclosed by a series of elegantly decorated side rooms. Occupying several rooms of the palazzo, «I’m Not Afraid of Ghosts» is presented as a modern counterpoint to the location’s rich history. Set against the building’s decorative and vibrant interiors, the effect of the contemporary artworks and their contemporary message are strengthened and intensified by this spatial dynamic of old-meets-new
